Fire & Disaster Prevention Engineering
Vision
Fire protection engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to protect people and properties from fires and natural disasters. It focuses on detection, suppression, and mitigation of the effects of fire as well as maintaining a tenable environment for evacuation and restoration of the environment after fires or natural disasters. Not until 2004, the South Korean government realized the need to establish an organization to protect people and their properties from fire as well as natural disasters. Hence, the National Emergency Management Agency was founded. This has increased the number of jobs in the field, and the department aims to provide education to students who are interested in becoming fire engineers. The department also places much emphasis on foundation studies in science and professional engineering.
